Women's Day: Scott Cornwall's hot redhead tips
"Fire up your winter look with a hot hair colour," write the beauty experts at Women's Day magazine. "Hair stylists around the world have predicted that winter 2010 will see the return of the redhead. Despite the fact that you will need to take care to maintain the colour it's an easy one to apply yourself at home. However, before you fire up the hot-hued dye, heed these tips on home hair colouring from UK expert Scott Cornwall.
- Impulse colour purchases and deciding to change yur hair shade on a whim are surefire ways to find yourself with an unwanted result. Think it through before you make that colour choice.
- If covering grey, select a shade at least one level lighter that your desired result. This will prevent the hair appearing too dark.
- Although home colouring can be a convenient and cost-effective option, it shouldn't necessarily be seen as a quick alternative. Take your time and plan your colour applications sensibly, and never just "slap on a colour" an hour or so before going out.
- Make sure yu apply colourants to clean, washed hair free from heavy conditioning and product build up. This enables a perfect, even result.
TOP DYE TIP
Always colour during daylight hours - artificial lights can mute tones and depths in your hair which can lead to incorrect development and application.
